Talk : Integrative Tibetan Medicine for Modern Chronic Conditions
Abstract
Tibetan medicine has been practiced for more than 1,500 years and is grounded in a longstanding system of medical theory and practice. Our previous work demonstrated that Tibetan medical theories can be considered at both the microscopic, molecular level and the macroscopic, whole-body level, particularly in relation to central nervous system myelin lipids and multiple sclerosis. This research provided a validation of Tibetan medical theories at the microscopic level. Our current work extends these investigations to additional neurological disorders, including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and Parkinsonās disease, as well as cancer and infertility. In this presentation, we will share case studies from each of these chronic conditions and discuss our integrative medical approach. The presentation will conclude with an exploration of Tibetan perspectives on death and dying, including a review of the Tibetan Book of the Dead, also known as the Great Book of Natural Liberation Through Understanding in the Between. We will examine the five elements and their imbalances in chronic illness, as well as the process of their dissolution during the dying process.
Biography
Dr. Cynthia Husted, PhD, is a medical researcher and the founder and president of the Science and Spirit Institute. She earned a Ph.D. in physical chemistry with a focus on nuclear magnetism and quantum mechanics as a possible link to the energy concepts of traditional medicines. Over the past 40 years, she has conducted interdisciplinary research on neurological disorders, integrating perspectives from physics, neuroscience, traditional medicine, integrative medicine, and functional medicine. Her work explores the role of energy in healing, particularly through the lens of Tibetan medicine. Through the Science and Spirit Institute, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, she focuses on healthy longevity and restoring balance in neurological disorders and chronic illnesses, including autoimmunity, mood disorders, cardiovascular disease, cancer, and atrial fibrillation. Her approach emphasizes the connection between mind, body, and spirit through a deeper understanding of universal energy.
